In conjuction with Mexicali Earthquake Relief Fund, PVRC will be collecting food, water and other basic supplies for distribution to those in need in the Mexicali area that were devastated by recent earthquakes. The devastation in Mexicali caused by the April 4th 7.2 earthquake, left four people dead, hundreds injured and thousands of people homeless. Not only is there minimal shelter, but there is a severe lack of clean, safe drinking water. There are babies in need, elders and children whose parents can't cook because they have little or no water at all. Items that are needed most are: • WATER: bottled or purifying tablets • FOOD: baby food, cereal, canned food • BLANKETS • TENTS • PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS: toothbrushes, soap, toilet paper, and feminine pads. • FLASHLIGHTS & BATTERIES • SUNSCREEN • MOSQUITO REPELLENT • DISPOSABLE PLATES & UTENSILS There will also be a weekend trip planned for May 8th-9th, coordinated by students in Social Sciences. For more info about the relief effort in Mexicali, please contact Teresa Neighbors at teresa.neighbors@uci.edu
Donations may also be dropped off in the green receptacle bin on the 1st floor of SBSG or given to Teresa at 5406 SBSG before Friday, May 14th, 4:00pm |
